When visiting the Great Wall of China, many wonder if they’re walking above a mass grave. While bodies weren’t placed inside the wall itself, they could have been buried nearby in the earth beneath it. Placing bodies directly in the wall would have weakened its structure as they decomposed. Historians believe many workers were laid to rest near the wall, covered by stone and other materials.
